Yeah, particularly the forum shutting down thread is something i want to go over again. It's linked from their summary though, already archived, so that's good.
(I was also thinking, for entirely selfish reasons 😁, to summarize/copy-paste some posts/threads that were particularly interesting (to me)... but i'm unsure if that's an OK thing to do? It would mean quoting people in a context they didn't agree to (some corner of my little website). On the other hand, tweets and tumblr posts and whatnot are circulated all the time... idk idk
The internet archive feels pretty "neutral" to me. It's the archive. 🤷♀️)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to see the forum get archived before it gets permanently deleted.
I could see about getting some threads archived myself, as my daily driver has an add-on that makes archival easy.

It's the archive. 🤷♀️) Absolutely personal opinion - but I think that when someone posts something in a public space, they should keep in mind that it *will* risk staying public and getting passed around. For conversations that need not see the light of day, there's private chatrooms and groups after all! ^^ It's a different thing if someone reaches out to you personally and asks to take down something public of their from your site - it would be good manners to oblige. But, n.1 rule of onlineposting is "don't post anything you don't want strangers to see/know". I would go along with it guilt-free As for the archival of the YW forum overall, I am a bit torn! On one hand, there's something to be said about just. Letting it go. Accepting that things end. On the other hand - there were some actually useful discussions and resources there. I *am* archiving those! ^^ I'm gonna save a few pages a day that haven't been archived yet, of the ones I think it'd be useful to look back on. I'm also saving the really important ones on my pc too tbh! Also on the topic of archiving - oistepanka, you'll be glad to hear I'm now officially an archive team warrior too!! <3 I was trying to work on DPReview yesterday but it was actually too busy. I was really glad to see

I found a way to download the entire forum using wget. Gonna give that a try on Sunday! Thanks and please put out a link on the Archive. I did most of the individual threads manually to Internet Archive But not everything though.

When I tried looking at the archive last, I checked out a good quantity of random threads and I couldn't find a single thread that wasn't archived. Though I found it a bit hard to navigate the forum sections (you need a direct link to them for them to even show up since it was technically login-only), and I can't be sure that some topics are "inaccessible" since theoretically archived but later moved or deleted or whatever.

Here's a video about how to archive a website using wget. I too am attempting to archive that forum as it to me is a very important resource to refer back to as we move towards various projects in the future both as individuals, or as team ups, or groups. We must remembers the exchanges that took place here because imo they are serious keys to the future.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe40pxcjPpM (have to post the link, direct vid posting on here isn't working for me lol)
Appreciate you Cobra for downloading it however you are. Though, I also think it's important anyone who can should download it and personally archive it offline as well in case who know what happens to the internet archive.

Cobra! Did wget work? For those who are interested in only specific conversations, it is simple to save individual webpages with the SingleFile extension for Firefox and Chrome. I think I have managed to copy nearly everything with it. I only ran into three pages that it didn't want to save properly for some reason [Introductions - Page 3 in The Yesterweb subforum, What Is Your LEAST Favorite Food in The Garden subforum, and Past Friends of the Internet in The Internet Cafe subforum]. Those I saved as PDFs. To be honest, I normally would not make a backup of something like this, but it was relatively small and y'all expressed how important it was to you. While there was a lot of "chit chat", I did not see any personal information that others might want taken down. However, I'm still a little hesitant to share the archive because I had to be logged in to take the snapshots and I don't know what exactly SingleFile saves within each file as a result. I will look through the code and check. Either way, I think between all of us here, we probably have several complete copies now. If we need to reference anything in our work together, one of us is bound to have a copy of it.

I.... manually ,as much as possible.. saved like 261 items in pdf form of whole forum threads. It's probably not everything but it's as much as I could do. My goal is to compile it into a mass pdf. The more I went through everything. The more I realized how valuable this inf is for any online endeavor going forward. Like.. we know pretty much for sure it was people talking. No bots about very real things. That needs to be preserved. If anyone would like a copy once I go through it and make things neater lol, let me know and I'll PM you.
Update: Mission Control, I got every (here's hoping) last thread. 384 for a total of 5080 posts in pdf format. Legacy files to be cemented. Hell Yes!

As I am sitting here manually backing up whole threads of YW forum. I realize I actually have a love for humanity. Like, first I backed up threads that I thought would be great to help with societal problems, broad reaching threads that will have impact on the future. Then I backed up threads on tech and what people thought about where things are headed, where things have been etc. Then I backed up threads on Art. Politics. Finally, I’m backing up threads that are passion threads.. threads that only certain people may care about and what I’ve discovered is .. selflessness. When you save something that meant a lot to someone else, something you yourself might not give a flying hoot about? That’s when you reach selflessness. When you really in real time realize.. other things matter to other people and you’re really see them sharing it and caring about it. I feel like I have siblings and I’m saving their stuff because I know how much it made them happy.. Which is deep because I grew up the only child of my family. So just wow. When you get the chance to care about people and know its not bots or w/e “web magic” is going on.. It matters. I feel like I am investing in human capital and that really means a lot. Burning that forum without backing it up is equivalent to burning the Library of Alexandria in my eyes. I’m not saying that to condemn. No. Far From It. The threat of its extinction forced me to go in there with a fine tooth comb. And how it’s made me feel as a person is that I as a human? Matter. We Matter. We actually matter.. and we? All of Us. Materialized something Awesome. And if anyone knows personally any of the staff from YW? Let them know their work was not in vain in the slightest. No. Far from it.
What I find that I've missed about the internet.. about the Yesterweb is the active pull of the collective of humanity, for more.. not materialism or rather just materialism. But for their dreams. Their desires that they've long since abandoned because the world can be cruel and without determined fires (those of strong will) along side you, yours may diminish.. which is a damn shame. The greatest mistake we can do as people is to make ourselves inaccessible in meaningful ways to each other. To lock ourselves up in jobs that isolate, or to bind ourselves to that which is damned determined to separate us .. from destination, from purpose. Man was not made to be alone, to live by bread alone and I think tonight I've grasped that.. we truly do not belong to just ourselves. We have a Self but the "US" is the grand self and as far as I'm concerned that is God. the unity of our collective identity. Why fight against that. Don't let the free radicals among us divide you from yourself at any level. That is all. For Now. and lets create.. something awesome from the rubble of all of this. Like for once, I feel like I am in the right place.

As I am sitting here manually backing up whole threads of YW forum… That's a lovely account of that little revelation, Oistepanka. I think that's similar to what I've always loved about the Web: so many animal species must have thoughts and imaginations, but one of humanity's revolutionary abilities is to exchange the contents of their minds using art and language, and the Web was the first thing in history to enhance that ability to reach around the planet.

So very true! And what a blessing that had been despite detractors on big social media. The internet has made the world more like a neighborhood. Some will become small town petty while others will unite for awesome goals to further the collective way into the future.
