Suppose I should set the good example! As you can see from inspecting any page on my site, my HTML&CSS skills amount to "copy and paste a bunch of strings and see if they work", and JS for me is pretty much black magic. I want to change that!! When I have free time (which, admittedly, hasn't been a lot lately) I'm slowly trying to learn the basics of Web development over at the Odin Project. I know I'm not the only one who's still learning the ropes!! It would be cool to create a group for us newbs to share our progress! I know that having some people to work with and that share my goals make me a lot more motivated! <3 learning alone is harder. I'd be up for setting up a group somewhere, or even just something like exchanging emails and sending eachother updates on what we learn. Even the smallest things, like "oh damn flexbox is tricky "

Funny that you mention it, i'm currently working on a document meant to teach newbies in a laid back manner about HTML and CSS (i'm not touching JavaScript, that's the devil for all i know)
It's still very much a work in progress, but it's panning out to be really good!, will probably add it to my site in some way shape or form once i'm done with it

Even the smallest things, like "oh damn flexbox is tricky " I've been teaching myself HTML for about a year now, and starting working with CSS relatively recently.
Right now, instead of working with extensive tutorials, I've mainly been working "ad hoc" (ie. wanting to add something to my site and learning how to do it). I think that's what's kept me consistently interested in this.
I prefer to work with html-css-js.com for the simple reason that it lets me see the changes I've made right away.
sadgrl.online/learn has a directory of effects you can achieve with only html and css, no Javascript needed. The sections on galleries and one-page blogs were particularly cool.

I'm probably not the target audience for this, but i'd love to hang out and (try to) help out. ((And i learned most of what i know way before CSS3 and such. Flexbox is bonkers...))

I would love to work in a group with yourself and others to learn more about coding. The most experience I have was growing up on different chat sites that allowed you to edit the background and add widgets, myspace with my profile. And just in general playing around with Ruby on Rails in my spare time, which has been awhile now that I look back.
The Odin Project looks neat, Ray. I'm going to check it out.

Sofly & septet - thank you both for your suggestions! <3 I'm really curious to see your project, Sofly! Atm, I feel like I have a lot of material and resources to study from, but very little peers to study with :'D sixeyes - actually having someone who's already knowledgeable would be of great help! Thank you <3 oistepanka - what sort of stuff do you do with Ruby? Programming seems so much harder than web coding! Also, do you have something you're working on (or want to work on) in terms of web stuff? :>

From what I remember, I downloaded an app on my ipad to practice with it. I can barely remember that project but I am a fan of Ruby nevertheless and this is a perfect opportunity to get back into it! I feel inspired to regain where I fell off some time back sooo I'll keep you posted LOL Much the same, it is easier when you have a group then just going it solo.

It's very very basic, but i think that for a complete novice it's good enough, if you know something i could add or change, please tell me!

it's finished now, here it is!It's very very basic, but i think that for a complete novice it's good enough, if you know something i could add or change, please tell me!
That's a cute tutorial!! I can see it being useful for a complete beginner who's really overwhelmed at the thought of writing code of any sort, since it shows that you can build something super basic but functional with just a few simple lines. My only real criticism is that legibility is an issue, especially since it's a tutorial you need to focus on. I found it terribly hard to read the white text on the patterned background, and wished it was in a solid-color container. In the end I managed by selecting over it, but it isn't ideal. And I found a typo! "In this case i will an image located in the same directory". This is all info I already know, but thank you for sharing! (also the win xp start bar is soo neat!) Just the very very basics. I am a super noob. From what I remember, I downloaded an app on my ipad to practice with it. I can barely remember that project but I am a fan of Ruby nevertheless and this is a perfect opportunity to get back into it! Oi Stepanka (jk - but, do you have a nickname? ), I would've proposed to create some sort of group chat at first - but seeing that I'm being suuper slow (so busy IRL, so little brain power to learn!), maybe we could as well use this thread to keep eachother updated and motivated for our next challenges? xD (but if you have another idea for a place to keep in touch about this lmk!!!) Personally, I needed to start the beginner section on Odin where it teaches you the very very basic notions about Javascript, and there's flexbox right after. ;o; I feel like those are so harddd,,, and it's only the beginning!! But, I would like to give myself a fair deadline. They're super simple lessons, so maybe I could ask of myself to at least study the lesson on Javascript by the end of next week (30th april). If you remember to check on me, that'd be appreciated! Having a study buddy/someone to keep me accountable helps me a lot with motivation! if you want I could do the same for you with some other subject, but no pressure if you're busy with life ofc.

Today, I beat Flexbox Froggy. It usually takes me a few days to finish tutorials, so I'm very proud I completed it the day I found out about it. Also, aside from using the flex-flow page on W3Schools, I had no outside help. I think this is a very good step in being able to work with coding for a living, and I can't wait to check out the other games/tutorials by Codepip.

I was just about to bring up Flexbox Froggy, it was so helpful in the beginning! And you're totally right, working from the documentation or a basic/non-specific tutorial is really a good skill to have; I was coding for a living at some point and the whole job is basically that, figuring stuff you don't know on your own (but some help is also very useful sometime ).
Good luck for everyone learning the web stuff! Don't get scared by programming @ray , it's a steep learning curve but really it's just text in the end; I was terrified to even touch a line of code for a long time so I'm sure you can figure it out! Nothing is impossible to learn I don't work on a specific web project at the moment (apart from posting articles), but if you need any help especially for programming (php for example! it's such a fun tool to make stuff on the web) or some css tricks or selector I'd be happy to help!

@ Ray Oi! This week was suppppppppppppppppppper busy IRL, I was the chairman of a whole event and thus on call 24/7 LOL My nickname is Steph! ( and yes! Oi Stepanka was totally created just that way! "HEY" STEPANKA !) Sure I can totally check in with you on how you are doing with the Odin project! I'll have more time in this upcoming month. I too want to look into it but I'll give you the official start date in the very near future. Side note: Welp, the YesterWeb forum is officially on read only. Gonna miss that place, though thank you so much for creating this place for us to jump off into future endeavors. I sincerely feel you are going to create something special and unique out of all of this.. no pressure though haha! One step at a time ^_^

It sounds tiring but exciting. Glad to have you back, haha! Thank you so much for checking with me. I appreciate it a lot TwT I realized I actually still had open lessons about CSS,,, GAH CSS is the most boring thing to me. But I know it will be worth it in the end! I studied the box model and it helped me realize some ways I want to structure my new site. Not sure if I'll have the time to continue this week as I'll also be busy irl a bit more! And - I truly hope we can create something special and unique together. I'm in the process of reading and elaborating some stuff, but hopefully soon I would love to discuss some bits and pieces about community building with whomever is interested <3 whatever we'll end up creating, I hope you'll be a part of it!

Hello, the yesterweb and creations of the web-aware users gave me some directions for exploration and creation of content. I discovered the Gemini protocol, and with each day, new cool fatures, tools and places. Im building some websites on the normie web, but want to start using the Gemini protocol more - to upload the content i have to work with certificates / thats the topick i have to research and learn how to do it.
Do you think the gemini://cities.yesterweb.org will still be operational?

Do you think the gemini://cities.yesterweb.org will still be operational? I think so, yes! The moderator in charge of taking care of it has expressed that moderating/maintaining it is pretty low effort in the closing down thread, so I imagine it will should stay up. Quote from that thread: Good luck on your learning journey, feel free to share your progress here!
