Oh hey hi
I'm here to propose an idea for a space that may be considered a bit extremist, and rightfully so, but i think it's still a cool program nontheless and a valid option for making a community around, i'm talking about Retroshare.
Retroshare is a private and decentralized network made with the intent to connect with people in a safe and private manner, and it comes with a lot of features, from simple ones like chat or email, to more interesting ones like forums or it's own video platform, it's really full of stuff to do and interact with
Now, as to be expected, that much content and focus on privacy comes with the baggage of not being the most newbie friendly option out there, there's a lot of configuration to be done, and there's a lot of technical terms to get familiar with; hell, since i don't know anybody who uses it, i'm barely scratching the surface of how to use it, but i think it's still a cool option with a lot of potential
Tell me what you think, if you know any similar program that may be easier to use, or anything like that

I remember looking into it a while ago! It sounds sooo interesting, I love these kinds of concept for a network; sadly I couldn't make it work on my wifi at the time, but I'll maybe give it a try again!
I would love to hear some people experience with it, or maybe some alternative that are similar

I'd be interested in it! The idea of a decentralized forum sounds super cool, I just downloaded it -- if you want to try it out, feel free to DM me your Retroshare ID and we can add each other. Though I do think the technical overhead might be a lot for many people, in terms of community migration.

This is really interesting! I've never used this program before but I'm willing to give it a shot. However, I was not able to successfully download it onto my mac. I have virtual box installed on my machine though, so I was able to get it on there. If anyone wants to test chatting on there, let me know! I'll send you my Retroshare ID too.

Funnily enough, back within the early days of the Yesterweb Discord, Auzzie had shared this program. A small group of us had spent a few nights testing it out, but connecting to other users in the network can be a bit hit-and-miss sometimes. For those that still might be interested in it, here is an overview of its features and how to use them.

here is a link from the retro-space: retroshare://chat_room?name=the%20webraft%20caffee&id=LF230DF961D80B986 lets give it a try.
I'm already confused as to how to join this chatroom lolol. I feel like this should be more intuitive.

So... it seems that we all are having trouble connecting with each other directly with retroshare, i myself tried to connect to two different members with no avail, it's as tricky as i remembered In that video, there's mention of a RetroShare chat server, which you access by sending in your ID, and adding the one it gives you; i was thinking that, if enough people are still considering this option, we could join that server, make a room for the web raft, and add each other from there instead of relying in sending the IDs as plain text, which proved inefficient
Tell me what you think

Unfortunately, it's still not working for me. I submitted my ID to that link and tried entering "retroshare://chat_room?name=the%20webraft%20caffee&id=LF230DF961D80B986" anywhere and everywhere. But I still can't really make sense of it at the moment.

Yes! lets try this: ABDsZagFo/qm1LiOei7lpF8zAxRUt8Ehtz5DRTncPguodGGxFTkPNAENcmV0cm9zaGFyZS5jaJMGCgGowCGYkgb+2cNVIZgEA+SsOA==
Adding this code worked! I now see the chat server online in my Network tab. When I go to the Chats tab, I see the Key Exchange greyed out. When I try to enter the chat after creating an ID to join ... nothing happens lolol

Trying out things on my end with this too lately -- think I made things a lot harder for myself by trying to use it with Tor (to not reveal my IP) Trying to make sense of things on the docs but it's been a bit slow going, is anyone else using Tor? I assumed that Retroshare's "install with Tor" would set everything up out of the box, but it seems I was wrong about that, alas.
Anyone have any better docs than this one (https://retroshare.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tutorial/tor-hidden-rs-node/)? If not I guess it's time to understand how Tor works...

I would definitely be interested in this! I tried a couple of the addresses from above and it did say "you're connected!" but then nothing would appear in any of the tabs. I'm not sure which one I should be looking in, though. But yeah I'm 100% willing to learn more and get this working with y'all if the interest is still there.

I used the ID shared by Modro, but nothing seemed to change on my profile. I don't see any other groups popping out.

If anyone is interested to dig more in any of the directions, send a signal.
