Figured I'd start a thread where people can share what films they recently watched. Seen other forums do this, and have been enjoying sharing my thoughts on whatever I do watch, which since discovering thrift stores and record shops selling VHS tapes and Laserdiscs, is a lot. Here are a few films I saw in the last few days.
I've been aware of this film for a while, and never really got the chance to watch it. That was until I saw it on Laserdisc, and figured "why the hell not?".
I thought it was excellent, full of twists and unexpected turns, and a few great action scenes! Though one side had suffered from laser rot, and the audio quality on that side was terrible...
Found a VHS of this at a flea market, the tape was in good condition, so bought and watched it.
I appreciate the wacky nature of the film, but it felt like it went a little over the top and things moved way too quickly. Maybe it's just me growing up, but this film, while still good, isn't nearly as good as I remembered.
Was at a friend's house, and we watched a couple of films, starting with this.
It was a really fun watch! Bruce Willis is (or was) a surprisingly very good voice actor. If they didn't advertise it as starring him, I'd have never guessed it was him! Steve Carrell was also excellent!
The film itself had a good plot and great flow!
The other film I saw with my friend. Was looking forward to this one being a big fan of H. R. Giger's artwork, but honestly, I don't see the hype. I'm not into horror, and nothing here really grabbed me. Did love the scene that has Giger's aesthetic, though!
Maybe I was too late to this. It’s hard to take into account that this was 1979.
Just finished watching this one, and was WAY better than I expected! Usually I watch a film in big chunks, like watch one side of a Laserdisc, or 10-20 of a VHS tape at a time, but this one I found myself watching in one sitting! It grabbed me the whole way through, and kept me fully glued to it! It's very well written and exciting the whole way, through!
I'd never heard of this prior to finding a VHS at a thrift shop, so I think it's kind of a hidden gem, and one of the few Stallone films I'd never heard about growing up, but wish I did! Would definitely reccomend!
So what films have you guys watched recently?
