Before the Yesterweb closed – knowing I wouldn't have the chance to do so from within the forum – I made a point to mention I planned to catalogue the listed sites of any members, eventually visit them all, and say hi if they'd indicated any desire for incoming communication, such as with a contact address or a guestbook. I thought I would share that list here in case anyone cared to do the same. (I'm assuming the usernames are sufficiently anonymous, and the sites sufficiently public, that no one on it would object to that.) I haven't visited them all yet, but I've removed any links that seem dead or like spam (e.g. a link to a company from a user that never posted on the forum). Yesterweb Member Sites.txt (9.13 KB)

It seems like "the least we can do" as enthusiasts of the personal Web, doesn't it? I suspect that personal sites never faded, but the ability to find and move between them did, and that made it seem like the sites had.
It seemed then like search engines were intended to surface that network structure between them, so we trusted them, and they failed to prioritize it. It's clear we should have trusted ourselves first, so let's trust ourselves first now.

I like to use Yesterweb Surf+, which has a database on the member sites, and can still browse through it!
