Thanks for giving me a second chance here. Yes its Blog47177 from Yesterweb. Hope for the best with them. I got caught with going on a goose chase when it came to certain topics on the other forum and that what got me labeled a toxic user over there especially when discussing about AI, and Social Media its a case of Politics and Tech coming together in those examples.
Some of this is about Elon Musk role at Twitter, Another one is Discord's role in the Pentagon Leaks allegations and talks that Tik Tok being banned is another one.
How to not get politics merged with tech is one I need to improve on.

Wow! Everyone editing the same thing seems like a good time... and probably makes for a living thing in a way that a zine isn't (i mean, zines are finished and then you move on). And it would encourage exploring around! I wonder how hard it is to set up? (That yale site looks wonderful btw, thanks for linking). The current thought I have: Website assets all live on a GitHub repo, which everyone involved can push changes too. We can use GitHub CI/CD so that whenever someone makes a change, a neocities website is updated (we could probably also use a different webhost, but I don't really know much about alternatives). This structure would also make it so that it wasn't necessary for everyone to know the neocities password & people could be added as collaborators. Still thinking about how to make this structure friendly to non-technical people, probably would have to include a brief guide on how to use git and such... but after the initial learning curve, making changes should be super simple. I just tried out this workflow for my website in response to this thread on the YW forum, and it seems to work fine. The underbelly idea reminded me i had a similar (maybe) thing in mind a while ago (without the collaborative aspect), but i thought of it as a "basement". Like, some weird un-web-like place underneath the actual thing where the rules were different. It never amounted to anything, but i made concept art of it for some reason ^^ I have to say I feel like your website already has a lot of depths to it -- you already have like, a whole cave network and your website unfurls into all sorts of delights and unexpected places -- I'm curious how this basement would've been different than all the other layers your site has?

How to not get politics merged with tech is one I need to improve on. Oh, I actually had no idea at all you were considered a "toxic" user. Did staff or other users confront you about it? Honestly, I remember you quite clearly as that person who'd keep posting articles, but I rarely if ever remember you starting an actual conversation about them, so it felt a bit... spammy, or like "voiding"/talking to no-one, and ended up avoiding your threads altogether, so maybe I might've missed something. To an outside eye, it might look like you're posting potentially inflammatory, biased news with no other reason but to have people argue in favor or against them. There's no real constructive contribution there. I remember mrwillhorlen did that a lot, and I speculate they were in the end banned for that. In your case I never felt like you meant to do that on purpose to get people to argue (and I hope that's true!). But I'd ask that, at least in this forum, when you share some news like those, you also wrote something about why you felt like it was worthwhile to share, and what kind of input and discussion you're looking for from other users. Remember that this is a space for discussion with other human beings rather than a blog to post updates to! In any case, welcome!! I'd be interested to hear why you had that posting behaviour in the Yesterweb (genuinely!), if you felt it was worthwhile/sprang forth constructive conversations, and what your experience with the YW has been like, what you liked most, what you learned from it etc! <3

I mentioned how the internet is gentrified like cities are thats what got the ball rolling on that one and a scenario about if the tech industry was not funded by venture capitalists and more like worker coops would we have the same toxic issues we are watching today. The best ones I did were mentions about alternative platforms like SPaceyHey, Friendproject, Multiverse.plus, Neocities The fediverse, Retrotech, Alternate Search engines and Privacy friendly places. THe owners of the other places have a point though.

I applied for a different forum on proboards and didn't realize I could merge them together. It's because I registered Yesterweb with that name and the email address I used there.

I just tried out this workflow for my website in response to this thread on the YW forum, and it seems to work fine. Oh yes, this is a good idea..! I like the way git preserves the history as well, so you can see how it evolved over time. This would be fun to try! (I suppose git makes it somewhat resilient to vandalism also if that's ever a problem, since everyone who's participated would have a local copy of the entire website history...?) And yeah, i'm a little worried about git being frightening for newbies. Like, the concept of branches and commits is probably fine, push/pull commands as well... but once you have a merge conflict or need to rebase or something, that's scary. Still, i don't know of a better tool. Maybe if we use Github or similar, people work in their own branches, and someone could help with merging if there were problems? I have to say I feel like your website already has a lot of depths to it -- you already have like, a whole cave network and your website unfurls into all sorts of delights and unexpected places -- I'm curious how this basement would've been different than all the other layers your site has? Hehe, thanks! Any depths are really just because i usually publish things before they are done and usually don't remove stuff (this is on purpose, but i mean, it's fairly aimless). The cave network thing is actually very much a sketch(?) of the basement idea, but like, that was a very unweildy system and a bit too rigid. If i were to redo it today, i'd probably write (or generate, hmm) static html pages, and draw more for it, maybe make use of html/css for weird house of leaves-style spatial effects. IDK. The problem i have with this idea is that it quickly turns into a full-fledged RPG with like puzzles and an inventory system and what not, and i have to take a dozen steps back Also, just recently found the entrance to your cave as well! laughed all the way there ^^ i mean, what the hell 😁

I can go ahead and set this up over the next few days, and also post a tutorial on how to use git for it. If the learning is incremental, it should be fine? After all, most people are starting out by learning HTML/CSS already to make their sites, so I feel that most would be open to an additional bit of learning If i were to redo it today, i'd probably write (or generate, hmm) static html pages, and draw more for it, maybe make use of html/css for weird house of leaves-style spatial effects. I don't want to be devil's advocate or anything but I do also think adding puzzles and secrets does sound really fun. Also thanks for checking out my site! :3 I was actually in part inspired by this thread you started on the yesterweb forum about website organization -- I ended up torn between the portfolio-esc website I had already made, and wanting to do something different. But I didn't want to redesign my site from scratch, so this is what ended up happening

Hey, finally decided to post here. Hi!
Kind of forgot about this place for a bit. ProBoards really doesn’t like my VPN, and waited to see if the problem sorted itself out, but it never did. I temporarily turned it off to say hi, and that’s I’m happy to see people are discussing other ways and places to host this forum instead! Hope somehow any posts made here can be transferred, though.

That might make things a little easier) I do really like the kind of labyrinthine style you've already got going on, house of leaves definitely feels in line with it... And you too! ^^ (Im a little sad that that thread fizzled out... i'll have to bring it up again some day. Still didn't settle on anything )

Hi, Ray and everyone!
It's good to see so many people have made it over. I recognize Cobra, SixEyes, Blog47177 (BioProject?) and Oistepanka from the Yesterweb Forum, and hi to Loaf, Septet, Malice, Artemis, DivergentRays, Nighten, and anyone else I've missed before now.
Ray, you're right: ProBoards' terms of service makes it look like we're definitely "the product," but this is a time when it's worth that kind of cost, and your initiative in doing something rather than nothing was called for. Thank you for favouring it.
I looked forward to talking on the Yesterweb Forum over the coming months about web development, and now that remains possible. But even more basically, that Forum attracted people who were interested in talking at a little length and regarding each other neighbours rather than strangers. (I mean "neighbour" figuratively, referring to a basic shared sense of goodwill, though our virtual distance is indeed minimized.) I think humans worldwide have always been entitled to feel more like neighbours than strangers, and we're still among the first humans enabled by the Web to speak and act like it. So I embrace the capacity of this small space simply to allow a few of us to interact, invite each other to our sites now and then, help us make them better, and maybe help us invite others.

Yes its Blog47177 from Yesterweb… How to not get politics merged with tech is one I need to improve on. I didn't perceive you as a "toxic" user either. You were the one user I muted, but that was mainly because you seemed to speak regularly in YouTube video links. I generally prefer only to see text on a forum, disabling as many images as possible, and YouTube previews were the one thing it wasn't possible to disable, but I selectively un-muted your posts when I wanted to read what you'd typed, which I'm still up to do. If it's a link, I'd second Ray's request for basic elaboration on why you're sharing it. (That's something that's always puzzled me: the equivalent of dropping an object or newspaper on a table with no further questions or statements. Is that meant to be a form of discussion?) And a suggestion: I recommended Blue Dwarf as the Yesterweb forum was about to close. I can enjoy discussing politics and technology, but I find the ability to treat them as distinct and separate concepts so useful that I tend to pass on discussions hinging on a seeming inability to decouple them – I don't think it's something you need to "work on" so much as something some people just aren't as interested in. However, I've observed that some people at Blue Dwarf love to banter about technology, politics, and law – the more "merged" the better, it seems. Maybe they'll resonate with you.

Hi everyone! I went by Yukari on the Yesterweb forum, and I posted with the same pfp, but I was so busy during its last month. I was a very passive/idle member in general. To be honest, I think I was one of those members that contributed very little, but still tried reaping the benefits of being in a community. I hope to change that here.
