So. I just got on threads.from my IG account and I'm trying a new approach to social media. A bit of background. Many moons ago elsewhere on the net. I was a mod. I looked after people in my care. Our host site had rules of engagement and if they weren't followed there were consequences. The rules were written out in a list format and placed where everyone could see them. I did the exact same thing on my new thread page. My rules are what I would like in terms of engagement and my consequences are the response to breaking them. I'm not just relying on community guidelines. I'm self governing. And I realized that in doing this.. people don't really have guidelines on social media (many don't, not all.) I feel like it's an area of naivete.. we put locks on our door IRL, we have security desks IRL.. but social media? We often let so much just be open and while I love that.. I also can't stand it because if the hateful types of people online who take advantage of that. A kindness taken for weakness and or a loophole too exploit. I Thank the YW for their Commitments they laid out because I integrated some of them into my rules. With the goal to hopefully have a nice space of engagement in a soon to be popular platform. A guard in the hopes Threads doesn't become the new Twitter in all its worst aspects. What do you guys think?
Update: I am actually deciding to take another approach on that Platform so this post is null. But for the sake of discussion I'm keeping it up here because I feel like the topic is important so let me know your thoughts!

People seem to be celebrating this, but I don't get it. Are we really going to let Zuckerberg monopolise the internet again?
In my opinion, this isn't a good thing.

Iβve seen people who are usually critical about the current state of social media have also seemed to suddenly forget that trading in one billionaire for another means nothing. Currently, you canβt even delete Threads without deleting your entire Instagram account. I canβt fathom why I would want to increase my dependence on zuckβs products.

My rules are what I would like in terms of engagement and my consequences are the response to breaking them. I prefer this approach instead of using things like "DNI lists". Setting personal boundaries is important, especially if one struggles with "people pleasing". People seem to be celebrating this, but I don't get it. Are we really going to let Zuckerberg monopolise the internet again? Like in my opinion, this isn't a good thing. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

spacehey.com/www.friendproject.net/There will be a time that Meta would have to make Facebook defunct and the core parts of Facebook get retro tech status like the way Spacehey and FriendProject gets used to demonstrate how MySpace was at its peak in the mid to late 2000's.

Yeah, feels like people just have a short memory, but then maybe they just donβt care. I was hoping for some big change where people stop using social media seeing them all go to shit and start using the independent web like we are. This is another reminder that most people donβt want change, even if, in my opinion, itβs good for them.

Cobra!so many people on my facebook cry about "wishing" they had another option like "facebook/instagram/twitter/whatever sucks" but they all refuse to even look at smaller sites and i think part of that is because they know all their friends and stuff won't move to another site so facebook still has that monopoly.

I was hoping for some big change . . . Always same so many people on my facebook cry about "wishing" they had another option like "facebook/instagram/twitter/whatever sucks" but they all refuse to even look at smaller sites and i think part of that is because they know all their friends and stuff won't move to another site so facebook still has that monopoly. Yeah, it feels impossible to get people to move. I think the desire is there. People want something else. But current social media options are still the easiest and quickest ways to stay in touch with friends, consume content, and get the news all at once. Even I still have a facebook/instagram, even if I don't post on them because my friends/family will not move. Threads is really banking on this idea based on some of the articles coming out about how many users signed up on day 1-- because they were already users and have established networks on instagram.

Έπoh absolutely. all you had to do was hit a button and it downloaded a new app with all your information imported from your instagram, followers/following and all. that's what people want, the work and stuff done for them. they also wants apps, they want to be able to pick up their phone and have yet another thing to mindlessly scroll through instead of having a conversation.

Wait until 2024 and people will start complaining that "Threads" is Toxic because a politician ranted crazy stuff about the 2024 elections there to incite attacks in Washington DC and your State Capital. I left facebook in 2019 mainly because I saw Linkedin as less toxic and knew it was getting ready to get crazy from there. However Linkedin is mainly used for job reasons in my case. For Mark Zuckerberg specifically he started threads as a ploy to respond to the issue over facebook users moving to Discord.
