Oh hey hi!
So i've been thinkning about making a small escargot group to keep in touch, it's less complex complex than something like a discord server, so it would be less of a pain to manage
I feel it would be less of a pain to manage, but would still bring a community closer together
Feel free to let me know what you think!

Right now, I'd rather keep things on here, just for the sake of simplicity. But that's just me. That's one idea. For what it's worth, I was going to make a post with a similar suggestion, albeit a very different method. Granted, I don't know a lot about escargot groups.
BTW, how did you upload a banner as your signature? I tried to do that, and the preview just showed code.

I'd absolutely go if everyone else went... i'm worried it's a little to fast-paced/ephemeral, though?

You can use BBCode to add an image from the internet with a link iirc the order is first the url tag with your site and then the img tag with your image in the hosting site of your choosing

Hello hello! I think a fast paced chat could actually be good for more low-stakes chats tbh!! I have never used Escargot - out of curiosity, is it like a group chat/discord equivalent with a nostalgic skin, or does it have specific funcionalities? And, does it work on mobile? I remember msn basically being the whatsapp of yore, but it's been a while. I'd be up for peeking in and saying hello every now and then from mobile, but won't be able to properly join and be active in a fast-paced chatroom that requires desktop, as I can only log in every now and then (and have other communities that I really would want to spend time in from desktop if I had the time ToT) Don't let me deter you from creating it though ofc!!

Hi there!
Escargot is basically the same as MSN Messenger, it's not an alternative client but a server that patches an already downloaded client and restores some of it's functionalities, stuff like games, winks and such are still a work in progress, and groups are apparently only available in Live Messenger 2009
Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a mobile version, but there is a web client!, so if you don't mind using it in your phone browser, you'd be good to go
EDIT: Ok so apparently there IS a Messenger app for Android called Mercury Messenger, but everything i can't find about it is shady re-uploads and such, although it is promoted in the patched escargot client; i wouldn't try my luck tho

I would much prefer an Escargot group over something like Discord, because you can patch old MSN and AIM clients to work with it, and I use the former to keep in contact with anyone I got on Escargot when on my Windows 98 machine.
We could also consider Matrix or the existing Yesterweb XMPP room, though I'm not sure if either have clients for Windows 9x.

i tried to use escargot once, but the instructions on the website were unclear and i never figured out how to get it working. namely, once i had the client patched, i wasn't sure what log-in details i should be using for the MSN client, so i never got to log in.
